Frequently asked questions
Everything we get asked, in one place.
Is this PPTX viewer really free?+
Yes. There is no signup, no paywall, no watermark, and no upload required for normal viewing. We may add an optional paid tier later for advanced features like editing and PDF export, but viewing will remain free.
Do I need PowerPoint installed to use this?+
No. PPTXViewer is a web-based viewer — it opens .pptx files directly in your browser without Microsoft PowerPoint, Keynote, or Google Slides installed.
Is my file uploaded to your server?+
Not by default. The viewer parses your file locally in your browser, so the contents never leave your device. The only time a file is uploaded is when you explicitly click 'Generate shareable link' — and even then you control when it expires.
What file types are supported?+
PPTX is the modern Microsoft PowerPoint format and is fully supported. Older .ppt files use a different binary format and are not supported yet — please save them as .pptx from PowerPoint first.
What's the largest file size I can open?+
Up to 30 MB renders fully in the browser. Larger files automatically fall back to a temporary server-side renderer (which still respects the same privacy rules — files are deleted after viewing unless you create a share link).
Can I open a PPTX file on my phone?+
Yes. The viewer is mobile-first and works on iOS Safari, Android Chrome, and every modern mobile browser. Swipe left or right to move between slides.
Will the formatting look exactly like in PowerPoint?+
We render text, images, basic shapes, tables, and slide backgrounds with high fidelity. Animations, transitions, embedded video, and very complex SmartArt are simplified — the structure and content are preserved.
Can I edit a PPTX file with this tool?+
Not yet. Editing is on the roadmap. Right now you can view, navigate, and share. Sign up for the newsletter on launch to be notified when editing lands.
Can I download my presentation as a PDF?+
PDF export is in beta and ships behind a feature flag. If you don't see the button, it's not enabled on your account yet.
Do you support animations and transitions?+
Not in v1. Most viewers strip these for performance, and we made the same call. The slide content itself is rendered faithfully.
